Transportation other than by the traveler's privately owned vehicle should be claimed on an actual expense basis. [Guide, Vol. 7, § 230.63.40(a)]
The traveler should be guided by the Judiciary Staff Travel
Regulations regarding rental car expenses. Applicable portions of those
regulations are described below.
- Reimbursement for rental car costs is permitted when the
authorizing official determines that the use of a rental car is more
advantageous to the judiciary than the use of a taxi, airport
limousine, or other mode of transportation. Travelers should exercise
prudence in the selection of the least expensive rental vehicle
necessary to adequately perform the official travel.
- See the Judiciary Staff Travel Regulations (Guide, Vol. 19, § 440.40.30) for further details.
