Overview

This section presents policies and procedures that apply to various kinds of services and providers, and relevant information about reimbursable and non-reimbursable expenses and other related costs.

There are many types of services that may be authorized as necessary to provide adequate representation to clients under the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) and related statutes. Depending on the individual case, they may include, for example, the following kinds of services and providers, as they are identified on Form CJA 21, box 14 and Form CJA 31, box 13:

• investigator, paralegal, computer-assisted legal research, interpreter/translator, psychologist, psychiatrist, polygraph, documents examiner, fingerprint analyst, accountant, chemist/toxicologist, ballistics, weapons/firearms/explosive expert, pathologist/medical examiner, other medical, voice/audio analyst, hair/fiber expert, computer (hardware/software systems), legal analyst/consultant, jury consultant, mitigation specialist, duplication services, and others (depending on the individual case).
