If a new attorney is substituted for an attorney originally appointed for a defendant in the same case, the total compensation paid to both attorneys may not exceed the case compensation maximum for one defendant, unless the case involves extended or complex representation. Where there has been substitution of counsel, at the end of the trial, the judicial officer with authority makes such apportionment between the attorneys as may be just.
